Have I Seen It Before?: No Thoughts Before Viewing: This is one I've been intrigued by every since I've heard about it.  I'm always fascinated to see a European director take on Americana.  This one seems really unique. Running Time: 113 minutes Directed By: Michelangelo Antonioni Written By: Michelangelo Antonioni Primary Cast: Mark Frechette, Daria Halprin, Paul Fix Summary: Two strangers begin a romance at Zabriskie Point, the lowest point in the United States.  One is an undergraduate dreamer and the other is a hippie. My Thoughts: Wow I thought this was absolutely fantastic.  A forgotten American classic for sure.  It's one of those films that people either love or hate.  I love it.  I won't deny that it's inconsistent at times but its fantastic atmosphere and in depth study of late 60s culture are all way too good. Between this and Blowup (1966), I really like Antonioni's aesthetic approach.  His films are slow as...

Running Time: 125 minutes Directed By: Billy Wilder Written By: Billy Wilder, I.A.L. Diamond Primary Cast: Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine, Fred MacMurcurry Summary: A man tries to rise in his company by letting its executives use his apartment for trysts, but complications and a romance of his own ensue. My Thoughts: This is one of the most perfect films I've ever seen.  I absolutely adore it.  Just one of the most heartfelt and genuine films out there.  I'd always loved it but this viewing particularly struck a chord.  It hits in emotions that remind me of how I feel while listening to The Beach Boy's Pet Sounds (1966).  Being a pretty turbulent and naive personality, CC Baxter is a character I find easy to identify with.  Jack Lemmon is just the best.  It's impossible to not completely feel for him here.  Shirley MacLaine is absolutely adorable as well. The overall pacing is what really makes this special.  For the fir...

Have I Seen It Before?: Yes Thoughts Before Viewing: This is one I've really been meaning to re-watch.  It's always been one that I slightly appreciate more than love.  Mostly down to the unique structure of telling the story from several different perspectives. Running Time: 88 minutes Directed By: Akira Kurosawa Written By: Akira Kurosawa Primary Cast: Toshiro Mifune, Machiko Kyo, Masayuki Mori Summary: A heinous crime and its aftermath are recalled from different points of view. My Thoughts: This is an absolute classic.  It's incredibly unique in the way it plays like a samurai mystery noir. On this viewing, I especially found myself appreciating its use of rain.  It plays a huge role in contributing to the overall mood.  The film has a distinct bleakness, which makes sense considering it came out only a few years after the bombing of Hiroshima.   Despite its bleakness and philosophical nature, it's actually very fun....
